Authors are often asked where they get their ideas from.
I can’t speak for others, but for me, they come from snippets of conversations heard in line waiting to pay for groceries, from a newspaper article that I read on my commute to work, from passing conversations with strangers, from dreams (those I actually remember), and sometimes from a place I visit and things or animals I see there.
Love’s Fresh Start began in a place I often visit. It is a local park where I take my dog, Dexter, for walks.
I have made a short video of the experience of one such walk. In it is the bench where Sylvia feeds the little cat, Angel, and where I witnessed a woman coaxing a feral cat out of the bushes with a plate of food. Soon afterward, I passed the train tracks where Jack runs the park train. The bridge from where Sylvia sees the ducks swimming in pairs. And Sylvia’s bicycle, now part of the park installation.
All in all, it was a good walk that day. And in addition to the story ideas, I got my steps in on my Fitbit too.
My next story idea is already percolating in my noggin from a cruise I recently took through the Panama Canal. As soon as it is done, I will share it with you.
Until next time,
